BOXING.
KING'S SCHOOL TOURNEY. G. L. THORBURN IS CHAMPION. A large number of relations and friends witnessed the annual boxing championships of King's School, held yesterday afternoon and evening in the gymnasium at Remuera Road. In the principal bout G. L. Thorburn beat F. E. Major, these two boys "mixing it" well in the battle for the school championship. There were aJso many other fine contests, and the high standard of boxing generally reflects credit upon Mr. R. A. Haldane for his splendid coaching service.
The Herbert Bruce Challenge Cup, for the most scientific boxer at the tournament, was awarded to I. L. R. Wilson, the middle-weight champion, and the Lazarus trophy, for the gameat loser, to K. N. R. Wilson (semi-final of the cruiserweight). In making the latter presentation Mr. L. R. Lazarus complimented Wilson, remarking that a game loser very frequently won more admiration than a winner. Rev. J. M. Beaufort, headmaster of King's School, thanked the officials of the Auckland Boxing Association for continued assistance in conducting the tournament. It was with regret that he announced the loss the school's sport would suffer at the end of this year through Mr. Haldane's return to England.
