THE CONCLUDING DAY. HAROLD LOGAN'S VICTORY. MOST POPULAR AT MEETING-. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRTSTCHURCH, Friday. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting was concluded at Addington to-day under pleasant conditions. There -was a large attendance and the totalisator investments amounted to £30,068, against £26,298 on the last day last year. The total for the meeting was £75,157, compared with £62,628 last year, an increase of £12,529. The racing was the best of the meeting, with a real thrill when Harold Logan won the concluding event from the back mark. Good Race for Second. Cannonball began very fast in the Midwinter Handicap and led First Wrack most of the way,' Worthy Queen,- Ukulele Lady and Lough Guy being next in a bunched field after half the journey had been covered, while Great Burton joined iu along the back. Cannonball retired at the straight and First Wrack won decisively. Lough Guy looked certain for second, but late rushes enabled Great Burton and Ukulele Lady to beat him on the post, heads separating tli'e ti'o. The Lightning Handicap. In the Lightning Handicap War Officer and Holly Bank were in front early, Cloudy ltange heading the others, while Gold Paper was well placed after going two furiuugs. There was not much change with link" the journey gone, the whole field being bunched. Royal Parade rushed to the lead with War Officer three furlongs from home, Cloudy Range following them to the straight, where Cloudy Range took charge from Royal Parade!' Cloudy Range won well, but in an exciting finish for second place Erin's Princess and Golden Direct flashed up, the former beating Golden Direct by a neck. Cloudy Range, like the winner of the first race, is by Wrack, both being bred by Mr.. H. F. Nicoll. Slow to Begin. Glenrossie was slow to move in the National Handicap. Sunny Morn ' was joined in the lead by First Flight at the cud of half a mile, Muriel de Oro being handy. First Flight took charge after seven furlongs, Sunny Morn; Sir Guy and Muriel de Oro following out of the straight the last time, with the others close up. Kir Guy retired in the back stretch. Sunny Morn joined First Flight three furlongs from home, Muriel de Oro, Mountain Dell and Free Advice being next. First Flight and Muriel de Oro retired when the straight was reached. Mountain Dell won easily by over a length from Sunny Morn, witli Glenroesie and Red Shadow close up, I lie last-named pair finishing fast. Mountain Dell has been racing consistently during the last few months. Roddy Scores Nicely. Craganour went off slowly in the Federal Handicap, while Sodium broke. Ron led out, Wiima Dillon and Craganour being next after a furlong. With half a mile {.one, Ron had Wilma Dillon, Silver de Oro, Craganour and Roddy in close attendance. Roddy was in front three furlongs from home, Silver de Oro and Nelson's Victory following him to the straight, but Nelson's Victory failed to catch Roddy by a head. Silver de Oro was half a length away after stalling off a .late challenge from Tactless by a head. * The winner and runner-up reversed positions on the mile running the first day. A Good Sort. Raydus was soon in front in the Heathcote Handicap, with Avenus and Bracken as his nearest attendants till a round from home, where Gay Gordon, Somerby, Blue Mountain and Gunfire joined in. Three furlongs from home Gay Gordon took second place, Blue Mountain and Gunfire following the two leaders to the straight, where Raydus and Gunfire retired. Blue Mountain "went on to win easily by two lengths from Indianapolis, who, after being rear the tail of the field on the rails for most of the way, finished with a great dash to get second, beating Gay Gordon in- a neck. Master Roy was close up. Blue Mountain gave further evidence that he is one of the best liorses ever sent here from Southland. Indianapolis showed brilliant speed at the finish. A Good Game Trotter. Nine good trotters contested the Addington Handicap. Admiral Bingen soon drew clear from Fifa. After two furlongs Xicoya was third and with half the journey gone was second, Huon Voyage being third. Admiral Bingen was beaten when the straight was reached. Huon Voyage then went after Nicoya, but a break near the post settled his chance, Nicoya beating him by a neck. ■ Mountain Mist was five lengths away, followed by Todd Lonzia, who settled his chance by breaking at the home turn. Nicoya is a good game trotter. Huon Voyage raced consistently at the meeting, being in a minor place each day. Pac9 Slow Early; Checkers turned round at the- start of the Islington Handicap, while Worthy King, Pageant d'Or and Suncross broke. Wild Guy led from War Paint, witn Wrecker and Pronto Bingen next after a furlong. The pace was slow for the first mile. Pageant d'Or was second starting on the last lap,, but retired along the back, and Wild Guy was beaten when the straight was reached. Wrecker stayed on to beat Pronto Bingen by half a length, FurSer coming with a late rush to beat War Paint for third place. The winner showed great improvement from earlier in the meeting. A Fine Performance. Twelve high-class sprinters contested the Farewell Handicap. Mountain Dell led out, and after two furlongs was followed by Royal Silk, while Logan's Pride, Free Advice and Great Logan were handy at the stand. Red Shadow then started to move up on the outside, and three furlongs from home was just behind Mountain Dell, with Royal Silk and Harold Logan next. Mountain Dell and Harold Logan drew out in the straight, the latter scoring the most popular win-.of the meeting l>v a length, from Mountain Dell, with Reu Shadow three lengths away.
