THE WRITERS' CLUB.
An enjoyable Bohemian lunchcon was held at the Writers' Club on Friday, when Miss Doris Cleland gave an amusing talk on "Sidelights of Advertising." "Advertising," said the speaker, "began in the sixteenth century almost simultaneously with the first publication of newspapers," and she read several advertisements typical of that period, some concerning the matrimonial paragraphs, which were very lengthy and contained much intimate detail. Mrs. Cluett thanked the speaker and explained that these monthly luncheons had been inaugurated for the benefit of young members. Other junior members agreed to give similar short talks at future luncheons.
