CITY MILK SUPPLY.

CO-OPERATION NEEDED.

TAMAKI PRODUCERS' POSITION.

The need for co-operation among all interested in the supply of milk to the city was stressed at a meeting held in the East Tamaki Hall last evening. Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County 'Council, presided over an attendance of more than 120 producers. The meeting, explained the chairman, had been called by the Auckland Whole Milk Producers' Association, with the object of strengthening the association and enrolling all producers as members for mutual protection. Outlining recent attempts to unite all producers, Mr. Waters said that in a recent letter the acting-Minister of Industries and Com- ! merce, the Hon. ,T. G. C'obbe, had stated that there appeared to be no unanimity among producers 011 the question of milk distribution and price. "We will admit there is need for cooperation among producers," said Mr. G. F, Williams, president of the association. What was wanted in the association was fresh enthusiasm and new blood, and all producers should join in the movement. Recent experience had proved that co-operation was essential. "Let us pet together and look upon the Milk Producers' Association as a clearing house, for our difficulties," he said. Mr. P. H. Wynian, representing the East Tamaki group, said that what was wanted was information as to the methods proposed by the association for the vending of milk. In reply, the chairman said the object was to enrol members without asking them to agree, to any hard and fast policy. It would be "for members to determine the policy of the association. Answering an appeal to the East Tamaki producers to associate themselves with the movement, Mr. Wyman said he was satisfied the only hope was legislation, with the .proper control of milk. The East Tamaki group was functioning on a co-operative basis, and it feared that if it joined up, majority rule would swamp the group. Mr. W. W. Massey, M.P., speaking chiefly as a producer, appealed to .all to join the one movement. "It will be futile to ask for legislative action' unless Ave can speak with one voice," he said. Mr. Wyman said that, although . he could not commit East Tamaki members' in any way, he could promise the association that the group would give all the eo-opei'ation possible and would seriously consider any proposals submitted by the organisers of the meeting. The East Tamaki' group would hold its annual meeting at an early date, and would prd'bably consider the question.
