At a contract price of approximately £35,000 a modern wheat silo is being built for the Northern Roller Milling Company, Ltd., at- the back of the company's mill in Fort Street. Employment will* be given to a number of workmen in a variety of skilled trades for about 18 months.' Designed for the storage and conditioning of wheat, the silo will cover an area of 82ft by GOft, and the department for cleaning wheat will be five storeys high. In the remainder of the building will be 48 deep bins, for which 300,000 ft of timber will be necessary. Protection will be given to the building by an outer'shell of reinforced concrete columns and beams. Mechanical elevators and spouts will be installed to handle the wheat. AV. J. Grevatt and Sons, Ltd., are the contractors, and Mr. M. M. Milliken is the supervising architect and engineer.
