LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
NORTHLAND'S CHALLENGE. REP. MATCH TO-MORROW. CARLAW PARK ATTRACTION. At Carlaw Park to-morrow afternoon the big attraction will be a provincial matcli between teams representing Auckland and Northland. This will be tho third rep. match of tho season locally, Auckland having already defeated Tajanaki by a narrow margin, and having been defeated by South Auckland. In view of last season's exceedingly close contests between the North and (South Auckland representatives, local enthusiasts are not unprepared to see their local champions go down to defeat. .It is, however, generally believed that to gain the day thu Northlanders will have to play a standard of football even better than that displayed by South Auckland when they downed Auckland. For since then tho Auckland sido has boon materially strengthened both back and forward, and is held by its supporters to bo a very much stronger side than that which was beaten on its merits by the Southerners. The Northland team is reported to bo a formidable side, with heavy and dashing forwards, and a rearguard which comprises pace and experience. In the event of the conditions being heavy and the ball greasy, as was the case in the AucklandSouth Auckland game, tho local players may find the advantage distinctly with the country lads. The teams are: — Auckland. Full-back.—Campbell (Marist). Three-quarters. — Bright (I'onsonby), Cooke (Richmond), Turei (City). Five-eighths. — Prentice (Richmond), Brisbane (Marist). Half-back.—Axeman (City). Forwards. —Hall (Newton), Satherley (Richmond), Lawless (Richmond), Clarke (City), Campbell (Marist), JDonald (Devonport). Reserves. —Backs: Hassan (Marist), Seagar (Devonport), Wayne (City). Forwards: Leatherbarrow (Devonport), Laird (Marist). The team will meet at the Tepid Baths at 2 p.m. Northland. Full-back.-—C. Meyer. Three-quarters. —R. Hamilton, C. Hamilton, G. Mackie or 11. Baker. Five-eighths.- '. Cross, N. Dunn. Half-back. —R. Cunningham. Forwards.—E. O'Callaghan, C. O'Callaghan, T. Pitman, H. Bowyer, W. Rata, R. Jones, C. White.
