GIVEN A CHANCE.
THEFTS FROM DOORWAYS. TWO MEN IN TROUBLE. Two men, William John Neville, aged 24, and William John Treen, 27, who pleaded guilty to several charges of theft of articles from the doors of shops on August 4, were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months, by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court to-day. Mr. I. J. Goldstine appeared for both. He said all the offences occurred on tha same day, when the two men had come to town and had taken too much liquor. Neither had been in trouble previously. All the articles had been recovered by the police. The offences were more foolish than criminal. '. The magistrate said he had received a favourable report from the probation officer.
