WALKER V. VARGA TO-NIGHT. At the Town Hall to-night the big attraction will be the professional wrestling: bout between George Walker and Count Varjra, each of whom has been unbeaten in this year's wrestling season. The amateur preliminaries arranged are: —Jii. Pinches (Community Sunshine),. 8.8, v. A. Hassan (Akarana), 8.4; C. Wilson (Bayview), 9.0, v. C. Jones (Grafton), 9.0, F. Walding (Bayview)-, 10.12, v. C. Passmore (Grafton), 10.10; N. E. Brown (Takapuna Surf Club), 9.12, v. F. Murphy (Community Sunshine), 9.12, Emergency bout: F. Paton (Y.M.C.A.), 12.0, v. J. Maloney (Takapuna Surf Club), 12.4.
CONTESTS IN SOUTH
Rumberg defeated Tereira by one fall in the seventh round of a wrestling match at New Plymouth on Saturday night. It was the brightest wrestling bout seen in Taranaki for some time. The men were well matched. Pereira probably had a lead 011 points when Rumberg jumped on him and crushed him to the mat. I here was very little showmanship, but a great deal of good, hard wrestling. The eighth round was a desperate one, in which 1 ereirti failed in a great endeavour to retrieve a lost bout. , ~ In a wrestling contest at Greymouth on Saturday night Mamos (14.3) defeated Patterson (16.0). Paterson, whose weight advantage was evident in the early rounds, secured a fall in the fifth round with a thunderbolt and headlock. Mamos evened in the seventh with a spectacular backloop slam. Patterson was groggy for the eighth, when IVlamos hurled hini thiougn the ropes several times. Finally Patterson failed to' return to the ring and Mamos was declared the winner. It was found that Patterson had sustained slight spinal concussion, apparently as the result of the slam The bout was regarded as the best seen on the West Coast for: a long tifne.
