NORTH SHORE CLUB. BRIGHT PRIZE-GIVING NIGHT. "Merry and bright" is the North Shore Swimming club's slogan for its prize-giving carnivals, and Saturday night s was breezier than ever, especially as the United Services Queen (Miss Elizabeth Burges Watson) was present for a while, being acclaimed by a gay crowd of dancers. The Mayor of Devonport, Mr. 11. I'. " • Meikle, in presenting the trophies, referred to the progress the 'club 1/ad made during the past season. This was due to the etlicient management of the clubs affairs by its officers. Mr Ralph Sheffield, chairman of the Auckland Swimming Centre, complimented the club on its fine array of trophies, and commented on the splendid results - achieved by the club's young swimmers. ' Prize-winners of senior trophies were - Men : Noel Crump, gold medal, Herbert Smith Cup, miniature of Sterling' Cup and gold button: J. IS. Allen, Morgan Cup and miniature: Bob Buchanan, silver button; Hunt, 11.M.5. Philomel Trainees' Cup. Ladies: Nancy Ludlow, Eila Munro Cup and miniature; Marie Farquliar, L. 11. Lit tle trophy; Mona Leydon, 1' ullcr Cup and gold wristlet watch. Club winners were as follows; —Grammar and Ponsonby Swimming Club's Tommy Lowe Memorial Shield : South British Insurance Company, Business Houses Relay Championship Cup: St.. George s Rowing Club Itelav Championship Cup; Nicholson Park Tennis Club. Men's Relay Champion; ship Cup; Vauxliall Tennis Club. Ladies Relav Championship Cup; Navy, silver vase; Auckland Police I'orce, silver Ail Cheers for Jock Miller (club secretary, the' executive officer of the dance being "Casey" Beck) and Reg. Morgan terminated one of the outstanding dances held at tho Parish Hall, Devonport, lor many winters.
