LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

NEW SENIOR -COMPETITION. BOARDS DECISION APPROVED. " t . ' ' SATURDAY'S FIXTURES. There was a large attendance of senior club delegates at the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board of Control, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, last evening, when the chairman's proposal for a new competition round to occupy five Saturdays was enthusiastically approved. It was explained that both senior grades would be engaged. The matches are tc be of 40 minutes' duration, with no interval. Each week two of these games will precede an interprovincial match. The competition will not be on knock-out lines, and, in the event of a tie, the team with the highest margin of points for and against, will be declared winners. A special trophy is to be awarded to each grade. The chairman said that force downs and kicks behind would be counted ad points in the games, which would thus be speeded up, in the same manner as an annual special competition held in Sydney during the absence of the representative team. The selectors will have first call on the players and it was therefore felt that many good players would get a chance o£ promotion. Mr. J. Rukutai, in endorsing the scheme, the details of which are to be submitted to clubs, said this competition would b; a good substitute for A and B trials he had advocated. Attention was called to the steps being taken to raise fund® for the Sports Queen, and in this, connection it was decided to make a donation as agreed upon by a conference among sports bodies. The mid-week committee was further warned that no senior Saturday players were entitled to play on Wednesdays without the written pel-mission of their clubs. That committee is also required to have the sanction of the board for its representative team to travel. The secretary reported that the new overhead bridge from Stanley Street to the park would be completed by Saturday. The team for Taranaki is to leave for New Plymouth on Friday morning. T. Hall (Newton Rangers) will captain Auckland in the field. In the draw for the reserve grade knockout, Devonport got tlie bye.
