VILLAGERS FLEE.
BUSH FIRES IN CORSICA. PARIS, July- 23. The inhabitants of many villages in Corsica have been compelled by forest fires to abandon their belongings and Ilee for their lives. The bush fires have been raging for five days past. More than SOOO acres of forest have already been totally destroyed.
The fire seems to have started through spontaneous combustion owing to prolonged tropical weather. At first little attention was paid to it, but a stiff breeze sprang up, causing the fire to spread very rapidly. The united efforts of fire brigades and inhabitants have failed to arrest its progress.
