NEW LYNN DISAPPOINT.

In its match against New Lynn on the Western Springs grounds, the Y.M.C.A. team scored a good win by three goals to one. The game was not outstanding for brilliant Soccer, although it was played very cleanly. The turf was in the right condition for the game, but the players were often harried by a strong breeze sweeping straight up the field. For the winners the hardest-worked men were Thoraes. Chapman and Coltman in the half line. During the first half these three were ( kept particularly busy with the strong' Xew Lynn rushes, and time after time tliey foiled offensive raids. The New Lynn men, however, were not combining nearly as well as in their two previous matches. In the second spell the halves started many dangerous attacks, which were well carried on by the forward line.

Hill, on the left wins, scored the last two goals tor Y.M., after really pretty footwork. Pearson and Humphreys helped a lot to keep the opposing goalkeeper wide awake, the latter sending in the tirst scoring shot for the winners. Murane played a hard game on the other wing. Cowie, the Y.M. goalie, was safe against the New Lynn attacks. Morris, in goal for the losers, put up a wonderful defence throughout, hut the deadly thrusts following so closely on one another were unnerving. He made'some clever saves, and luck was not with him all the time. Reid was as sound as usual, but Watson was occasionally disappointing at left half, and Twinn was too frequently out of position. Hamilton and the two Carrs made a fair showing in the front- line. Their usual combination was lacking, and their individual work was minus the punch and finish of former matches. Nevertheless, they gave the Y.M. men a hard tussle in the first spell. The New Lynn team in the second half wax so much on the defensive that the forwards were out of the picture most of the time. Dorman, the new man at centreforward, has not yet struck form, and it may be this fact that broke down the suburbanites' combination.
