HARRIERS.
10,000 HETRBS RACE. J. W. SAVIDAN FIRST nOME. A record entry of 140 harriers lined up ' on the Avondale racecourse at 3 o'clock on Saturday to take part in the 10,000 metres teams championship. The event was run under the auspices of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Association, and (lie course was across country, starting and finishing opposite the grandstand. The teams represented Auckland. University. Technical, Lynndale, Wesley, Calliope, PresI byterian and Papatoetoe Harrier Clubs, I the first ten men counting for points, lowest number winning. In addition, the championship and a sealed handicap were • decided. I J. W. Savidan, of the Auckland Club, and the British Empire champion, won the championship in 36.0, The second man 1 was Ansell Brown, of the Lynndale Club. I whose time was 36.51. J. Nicholson. TecU- ! nical Old Boys' Club, was third, 3G.53. '■ The Lynndale team's score was 193 points, I 1 : Technical. 290 points, 2; University, ' 34G points, 3 ; and Auckland, 433 points, 4. The winning team and their place in the roce was: A. Brown (2). W. Briggs (8), T. Henshall (12), B. Klgden (15), K. McCarthy (18), B. P. Henshall (19), M. Fowlds (22), R. Compton (2St, A. Lowry (30). and R. Henshall (30). A. Anderson, of the Lynndale team (10.30). won the ! sealed handicap, finishing in 47th place in 1 41.8. The finishing times of the leaders and their clubs were as follow : ,T. W. Savidan I (A.), 36.G, 1; A. Brown (L), 30.51. 2: J. ! Nicholson (T.), 30.53, 3; S. Andrews (C), 137.0, 4; J. MeKenzie (P.), 37.10, 5: J. Bradley (T.), 37.22, G: W. Farland (W.) f 37.21, T; Briggs (L.). 37.28, 8. Mr. J. P. Kalaugher. president of the I Auckland Centre, presented the medals and i congratulated the Lynndale team on their ] victory. He also congratulated J. W. SaviI dan and stated that Auckland was fortunate to have a world's champion runner in their team.
