PONSONBY IN FRONT. MARIST SURPRISE UNIVERSITY. GRAFTON AND MANUKAU DRAW. Keen play was a feature of the Auckland Rugby Uniou's senior championship competition on Saturday. As a result of the matches Tonsonby are now the lenders, one point in front of University. The surprise of the afternoon was the defeat of University, favourites for the championship, by Mariet Old Boys in the mam game at Eden Park. The double blues -ivon a well-merited victory by 11 points to 6. Manukau and Grafton had a great-tussle and finished up 15 points all, while on No. 3 ground Training College scored a last-minute try to beat College Rifles by one point. In the fourth match played at headquarters l'onsonby took full advantage of mistakes made by their opponents, and beat Technical Old Boys by 13 points to 3. At the Show Grounds Otahuhu set Grammar Old Boys a warm pace, and the all whites had to move quickly in the closing stages to gain a 16—12 victory.
