ROOPE ROOSTER KNOCKOUT. CITY DEFEAT PREMIER TEAM. WINGS TO MAMST AND RICHMOND. Under perfect conditions and berorc a large crowd ;it Carlaw Park on Saturday tho annual knock-out competition tor the silver bird emblem, the Koope Rooster, provided a varied and entertaining programme. The piece-de-resistanee was the curtain-raiser between Devonport and City, in which a first spell of unenterprising football was capped by a spectacular hurricane finish by the Rovers, who outpaced the championship winners and won by a seven-point margin. Curiously enough, the main game was on similar lines, for, after Richmond had dominated the play for the first half, Newton delighted witu a bid for supremacy that lifted the struggle from mediocre plane. In that 23 minutes they registered 15 points to 8, but Richmond's inside back division proved too good. Out at Sturgcss Park, Otahuhu, Mnrist Old Hoys got a "wing" by victory over Ponsonby. Devonport Reserves, whose ranks included tho Rodney (North Auckland) Rugby rep. live-eighths, Rosieur, ended their match with Newton nine all, and in the extra ten minutes played, the seasiders ran on eleven points. The semi-final draw for next week resulted: —Marist v. Richmond, with the bye to City.
