MOTORIST ON TRIAL.
CHARGE OF CAUSING DEATH. EXCESSIVE SPEED ALLEGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Arthur Haldamond de Lisle, traveller, of Wellington, aged 31, is on trial in the Supreme Court to-day on a charge of negligent driving, thereby causing the death of Alfred Hicks, labourer. Accused has pleaded not guilty. The charge is the result of an accident on the Hutt Road, near Petone, on June 2, when deceased was knocked down by a car which was driven by De Lisle. The negligence alleged against accused was that he was under the influence of liquor and was driving at such an excessive speed as to be unable to pull up in time to avoid Hicks.
