FOOTBALLERS HURT.

SERIOUS NECK INJURY. MATCH AT WAIHEKE. A serious injury to his neck was suffered by Jack Travels, aged 23, of 35, Virginia Avenue, Kden Terrace, while he was playing football for a team from It. and W. Hellaby, Ltd., against a team at Onetangi yesterday afternoon. He was brought to the city by an excursion steamer, and was rushed to the. Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance. His condition at noon today was still serious, having shown no improvement since his admission. The game had been in progress only half an hour when the accident occurred. An eye-witness said that nobody seemed to know whether the injury was caused through a kick from another player or by a heavy fall. Mr. Travers retained consciousness, but lost the use of his limbs after the accident. Injuries in City Games. Three cases of injured footballers were admitted to the Auckland Hospital as a result of matches played in the Auckland area on .Saturday afternoon. None is in a serious condition. Coldicutt, of Lunn Avenue, Kllerslie, who suffered internal injuries from a kick during a friendly match for Mount Wellington Fire Brigade against the Otahuhu Eire Brigade; Mr. George Alfred Lear, of Mission Bay, aged 21, concussion.
