TWO CASES ON MONTEREY. AMERICANS IN HOSPITAL. Two cases of serious illness among the passengers on the liner Monterey when she called at Auckland on Saturday were transferred, to a private hospital here. Mr. Bud French, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. French, of California, who developed bacterial infection of the antrim, induced by an abscessed tooth, and whose condition when he was taken to hospital was serious, underwent an operation, and ho is now much improved. He spent his 22nd birthday yesterday in bed. Mrs. French, who decided to stay ashore with her son, was considerably upset by the young man's illness, and collapsed through a heart attack in the Grand Hotel yesterday morning. She now has a trained nurse in attendance. The other case is that of Miss Abbio Schnier, who was lauded in a critical condition with symptoms indicative of cerebral hemorrhage. Her condition at noon to-day was still serious, having shown littlo change over the week-end. Miss Elizabeth Schnier. her sister, who was returning to America with her. interrupted the voyage at .Auckland in order to remain with the patient.
