MASS MEETING PREVENTED
POLICE ACCOMPANY MARCHERS. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) "WELLINGTON, this day. Relief workers intended to hold a ii'iiss meeting at Newtown Park this moruing, but when they assembled they found the gates locked, their permit having , been withdrawn. About 400 inen inarched to the Trades Hall, being accompanied by a large body of foot and mounted police, and a meeting was held. It is stated that the leaders' request for men to leave their jobs to attend tlie meeting met witb a mixed reception. About -00 cuuiu in, but many declined.
