CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING.
AUCKLAND GUN CLUB.
There was a good attendance of shooters and visitors at Pakuranga on Saturday, when a series of matches was held by the Auckland Gun Club. A seven-bird match for Mr. S. Roberts' trophy resulted in a tie between G. Peach (24yds). W. Turner (24yds), and W. B. Grant (24yds), with the possible. They divided the stakes, and agreed to shoot off for the trophy in the next match, all going back to 25yds. By a remarkable coincidence each shooter missed his last bird in the next match, necessitating a further shoot-off. Peach and Grant missed the ninth bird. Turner getting his bird and winning the trophy. The second match, for Mr. C. H. Drysdale's trophy, of seven birds, also resulted in a tie. L. F. Eamsey (27yds), B. J. Schofield (24yds) and H. Gage (23yds) each shot the possible, Ramsey winning the shoot-off on the eighth round.
A five-bird match was won outright by D. S. Ewing (27yds) with the possible, (5. A. Whitney (23yds) and H. Gage (23yds) getting four each.
