DIVIDING ACCOUNTS.
RECEIPT STAMP CHARGES. (Ey Telegraph.—P-u Correspondent.) Wi:..-v(iAREI, this day. Seven charges of avoiding stomp dutiee on receipts of ii- or over were preferred against James Jackson before Mr. G. ST. Morris, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Four of the charges dealt with tho separating of amounts of over £2 -with the intent of avoiding stamp duties, and , three of the counts dealt with failure to fix the stamp to receipts of £2 and over. Jackson, who was represented by Mr. J. F. S. Brigge, admitted the offences. Mr. Morris said he regarded the offences as serious. It was impossible to say how much over a number of years the revenue had lost if Mr. Jackson had always carried out his present plan. The offence, aleo, was a hard' one to detect.
On the four charges of dividing amounts, Jackson was ordered to pay costs £2. On the first of the three > charges of failing to stamp receipts he was fined £3 and costs, and, on the remaining two £2 and costs.
