INDEPENDENCE DAY.

A luncheon and reception was held yesterday in the reception hall at MiLne and Choyce, by the Consul for tho United States. Mr. Walter Boyle, who was assisted by Mrs. Boyle, who was gowned in a claret coloured flat crepe de chine frock, with hat en suite. Mrs. Boyle was presented with a posy of violets by the Mayoress, Mrs. G. W. Hutchison. The beautiful room had been specially decorated for the occasion, and an orchestra provided incidental music, and some ■musical items were given. The guests included members of the Consular Corps and their wives, Mr. A. M. Ferguson, Dean of tho Corps, and Mrs. Ferguson, Mr. F. S. Battley (Argentina) and Mrs. Battley. CaptainH. H. F.
