BLIND INSTITUTE.
TENDERS FOR ADDITIONS.
HOME FOR AGED MEN. An additional building is to be erected in the. grounds of the Blind Institute for the accommodation of 28 blind men who are no longer able to work. The home has been designed by Messrs. Glimmer and Ford to harmonise with the present buildings, and will be a twostoreyed building in red brick, with a tile roof. It is to be completely selfcontained, comprising kitchen, dispensary, living room, dining room, reading room, glassed-in sun porch, and two wards. Central heating lias been planned for the living quarters. Acceptance of the most satisfactory tender of the ten received will be made at to-morrow's meeting of the board of trustees of the institute. • Work will commence as soon as possible, and it is hoped to have the home completed in under nine months.
The sum of £040 has been contributed to the cost of the building by blind people, £800 is expected in wages subsidy under the Unemployment Board's No. 10 scheme, and the principal amount of £3500 is provided by the Sir Arthur Pearson memorial fund. The total sum at present available will not, however, cover the entire cost. Contributions would bo welcomed by the board of trustees.
