GARDENER'S WEAK CONDITION

PATHETIC COURT CASE

A diminutive man, who looked ill, William Rysdale, aged 55, a gardener, came before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning - , charged with being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support. He had been in prison on remand since his arrest last week. Detective-Sergeant: McHugh said Rysdale had been examined by the gaol doctor and also by Dr. Buchanan, superintendent of the Mental Hospital. The doctors agreed that Rysdalc's feeble condition was due to shock, caused by 'cold and undernourishment. "One of our police sergeants knows Rysdale well jand says he is a jxood gardener and good iworker," said Mr. Mc.Hngh. "The trouble is he cannot get work." j Major Holmes, Samaritan officer for the Salvation Army, said Kysdale was taken to the Army homo a fortnight ago by one of the sergeants. However, he' would not stay there. He wandered away and pretended to be a traffic officer, standing out on tlie street holding up traffic. "I am willing to try him again in the home, but I don't think he will stay," said Major Holmes. "Perhaps it would lie hot tor if he were sent up above for-a while, so they can feed him up," suggested the magistrate. Rvsdalc: I'll go with the Army, sir. I'll "do my best. "All right." said the magistrate, with a smile. "Convicted and ordered to :'ome up for sentence when called upon."
