RECEIVED STOLEN TYRE.

Gordon E. Jacobs, a married man with six children, was charged at the Onehunga Police Court this morning with stealing a motor tyre, and also with receiving the same, knowing it to have been stolen. He pleaded not guilty. Sidney W. Coughey said accused called at his place and wanted to buy a motor tyre. He refused to sell the tyre without the half-ton truck to which it was attached. On April 25 last he saw the right-hand back tyre belonging to his truck on a truck outside accused's residence in Princes Street. He identified it, , after accused had removed it from the wheel for his inspection. Jacobs stated in evidence that he purchased the tyre from a farmer named Cox at Te Kauwhata for 30/. The first charge was dismissed for j want of evidence by Messrs. J. E. Cowcll ' and J. Laking, J.P.'s. Accused was convicted and fined £1 for receiving the tyre, with 21/ costs. ' An order was made for the restoration of the tyre to Coughey.
