WINTER SHOW.

BRIGHTER AND BIGGER

PRODUCTS OF THE PROVINCE,

THIS YEAR'S INNOVATIONS.

J Flans which have been made for the I annual Winter Show by the Auckland " Agricultural and Pastoral Association indicate that it will lie spectacular, % educational and entertaining. The show ' will open next Wednesday, and will | continue until the following .Saturday * week. In a moot comprehensive prot gramme there are quite a number of \ new features which should lie attrac- * live, nut only to the residents of the £ city, but also to people of the province * generally. - Chief among the subjects of educa- | tional interest is the arrangement for a f display of cheese manufactured in diff ferent parts of the world with which ' tlie New Zealand product competes on / the English market. The association ( has purchased samples of these cheeses * in the ojicn market in England. They include English, South African, Cana--5 dian and New Zealand white cheese, and f Scots and New Zealand coloured cheese. t Displayed side by side, this collection v will provide a much better basis for * comparison than last year's display in S the case of butter brought out from Knglaml for the occasion, as the butter had not been specially manufactured to * stand up to the conditions imposed of 4 bringing it to New Zealand. In the case I of cheese it is contended that it is a * fair basis of comparison. The cheese 5 exhibits will, during the show season, ' be cut up anil samples distributed j among factory managers and lnanufae- | turcrs for their appraisement. 0 Four sheds on the Central wharf will £ be utilised to accommodate the cxliibi- ® tion, and in one. there will be a continuous entertainment for the public, | special programmes being supplied each t day. Among the items will be dancing < and display of gymnastics. A tug-o'-war is a hqw feature which should be a spectacular attraction and has drawn | an entry of 13 teams from various local bodies. A model yacht competition will g provide keen competition for the youth- | ful yachtsmen of the province. 5 The Auckland Foul try, Figeon and Canary Association will hold its show „ in conjunction with the show, and so . will the Auckland Kennel Club. Excel- | lent entries have been received for both; ■j and more space has to be provided to accommodate tha entries of the Kennel Ii Club. ' At the conclusion of the kennel show, 6 the space will he utilised as a skating / rink—an entertainment which is popular in Auckland during the winter season. | Another interesting exhibit will be one ,i which the Masaey Agricultural College is sending up in the nature of a display 5 demonstrating wool research. Sheep farmers will find particular interest in C the new benzol test for hairiness in 5 wool. ' Entries, generally speaking, are most 1 satisfactory, and over all sections they compare favourably with those of last * year. A notable increase is the total g of agricultural products. J Useful hints on cooking will be provided by the competitions in electrical § cooking, in which primary and secondary t schools pupils, adults and professional ,( bakers will take part.
