"POORMAN" TO "KAWAU."
NAME OF ORANGE CHANGED. A decision to cliange the name of the Poonnan orange to Kawau orange was made at a meeting of the Auckland Citrus Committee last evening, along with a reservation that the new name should apply only to the Morrison seedless variety.
The chairman of the Auckland Citrus Committee, Mr. X. 1!. W. Thomas, said that lie had communicated with tiie Department of Scientific and Industrial Research urging the growing of the Morrison seedless variety, and that an embargo should be placed on the importation of any Poonnan oranges unless certified to be of the Morrison seedless strain. It was also pointed out that a warning should be issued against the use of the fruit until fullv matured.
A report was received in connection with the Mount Albert citrus test area, stating that preparatory -work had been completed.
