FREELY USED IN WAIRARAPA
POLICE CALLED TO ROUGH GAME,
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") MASTERTON, this day. The "Rugby rough" lias been very much in evidence iu Wairarapa this season, and in a number of senior and lower grade games the tactics of certain players have been most disgraceful. In a recent senior game. Old Boys v. Dalefield, play was of such a nature that two spectators wrote to the Wairarapa Rugby Union giving incidents of punching, indiscriminate kicking and foul play. . , On Saturday there was a disgraceful exhibition, when Masterton and Gladstone juniors met at Masterton. A Gladstone player was ordered off and a Masterton player was severely injured. Other players were injured and fists and feet were freely used. When it looked as if a riot was about to take place police and Rugby Union officials were summoned from another ground and the disturbance was quelled. The Wairarapa Rugby Union is to make an investigation and it is possible that charges of assault will be brought against certain players.
