MORE WORK NEEDED.
RENOVATION OF BUILDINGS,
SUGGESTION TO MINISTER.
(By Telegraph.—l'ress Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. A request that tho Public Works Department should put in hand certain works was mado to the Minister of Public Works, tlio Hon. J. Bitcliener, by a deputation from the Wellington Trades and Labour Council. The speakers urged that tho Public Works Department should put in liaiul the work of renovating a liumber of Government buildings in urgent need of repair, the work to be dono at standard rates of pay, thus employing a largo number of men. It was also suggested that the new Wellington railway station bo proceeded -with on the same lines as the National Museum and Art Gallery. Protests were made against tho low rate of pay for tradesmen by tho Public Works Department. Tho Minister said some of tho points raised were new to ihim, and ho would investigate them. The suggestion regarding the railway station was ono worthy of consideration, lio said.
