NO DEFAULT.

BRITAIN'S WAR DEBT

VIRTUALLY CERTAIN.

Discussion Taboo at World

Conference.

U.S. DELEGATE EMPHATIC

'United P.A.—Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) / (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 8. Though the American delegate to the World Economic Conference, Mr. Cordell Hull, Secretary of State, upon arrival at Plymouth, was emphatic that war debts will not be discussed ai the Economic Conference, there are hopes that his visit to Whitehall will facilitate Cabinet's discussion of the problem to-morrow. Tho delegates, with their wives and daughters, number over 100. Mr. Hull said they had come with a spirit of hopefulness accentuated by the preliminary conversations between America and Britain, "but we shall not discuss war debts." The "Morning Post" diplomatic correspondent says it can be regarded as virtually certain that the Cabinet will decide against default on the war debt instalment due to America on June 15. The main consideration is the unfortunate effect non-payment would have on the World Economic Conference. "The Sun" says it understands that whatever decision Cabinet reaches, Britain is determined not to disturb the Lausanne agreements. Accordingly if she pays America on June 15 she will continue to relieve the Dominions of their debt interest. A message from Brussels says the Belgian Cabinet has decided that to pay tho war debt instalment is impossible.
