FRUIT-SELLING ON STATIONS.
The Railways Department lias called for tenders for the right to sell fruit on the Waitakere railway station. It is evidently the usual custom of the Department to call for such tenders and perhaps it really does pay a grower to pay for the right to sell fruit at a particular railway station, but in doing so on a station like Waitakere seems pretty mean on the part of the Railway Department' Surely the Department could afford to let sellers of fruit have at least a free stand <> n railway stations throughout New Zealand, with the exception of stations where there a_f e railway refreshment rooms, and so help the growers and the sellers, and also provide to®?" ter facilities for the travelling public. WW'® on the subject cf eatables, may I ask why the Railways Department still charges 4d for a cup of tea and 4d for a sandwich of a few mouthfuls? SUBURBANITE.
