HIGHER ALLOCATION.
RELIEF WORK IN COUNTRY.
HAURAKI PLAINS REQUEST
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. The Unemployment Committee, at a meeting in the Hauraki Plains yesterday, granted five applications under the No. 4a scheme. Mr. J. McClune stated that the unemployment question at Waitakaruru was becoming acute. About a dozen married men had paid the levy, but could not get relief work, yet men froj Auckland who had no* paid the levy were in local camps. Mr. F. Mayn considered it was unjust to have men starving in the country and other men coming from Auckland. Mr. W. Madgwick said that to keep them all it would be necessary to increase the levy. The chairman, Mr. C. W. Parfitt, considered that representations should be made to have proper allocations for the country districts, and on the motion of Mr. J. S. McClune it was decided that tho Unemployment Board be asked to increase the allocation.
