CHEAP MEAT.
ONEHUNGA RELIEF WORKERS
The Oneliunga Borough Council lias accepted the olfer of the Labour Department to supply the relief workers with cheap meat. The council received its first consignment of 25 sheep this morning from Westfield. These were cut up into joints by two butchers on relief work. The council will pay ljd per lb for the meat and sell it at ljd per lb. The extra farthing charged is to cover the cost of carting tlie meat from Westfield to Onehunga. There are 000 relief workers on the council's pay-sheet, and all are eligible to purchase as much meat as they require over a week, provided they give in their order two days before the meat is available This fact not being generally known, only about 150 relief workers applied for meat this morning. When the scheme is in full operation it is expected that GO or 70 sheep will be dispensed each week. Mr. J. K. Green, the organiser, will act as dispenser and treasurer.
