American Deficit May Be Near Two Billion Dollars. IN SPITE OF ECONOMIES. WASHINGTON, June 4. The current trend of tho Government's finances indicates a prospective deficit of about 1,700,000,000 dollars for the fiscal year ending June 30. This is in spite of a decrease of about 1,000,000,000 dollars in expenditure and an increase of 100,000,000 dollars in revenue. It is estimated that the increase in the public debt will be 3,000,000,000 dollars, bringing it to 22,000,000,000. CANADIAN HOLIDAY. GUARD FOR MR. ROOSEVELT. WASHINGTON, June 4. Extraordinary precautious are being taken .to protect President Roosevelt who with his family is going on a holiday to Campo Bello Island, three miles inside tho Canadian border, in New Brunswick. If the famous Canadian Mounted Police have the job of guarding the President tho members of the White House Secret Service, it is suggested, will sleep more soundly. GOLD SUSPENSION. APPROVAL BY U.S. SENATE. WASHINGTON, June 4. The Senate has adopted the Government's resolution abrogating the requirement in public and private contracts for payment of obligations in gold. The resolution now goes to White House.
