JEWISH RECEPTION.
A large assemblage of the Jewish community of Auckland gathered together yesterday in the school room, Bowen's Avenue, when a social afternoon was extended to Babbi S. A. Goldstein on attaining liis SOth birthday. During tlio afternoon eulogistic speeches were delivered by Mr. Claude Moses, president of the Hebrew Congregation, the Bcv. Dr. Ranston, professor of St. John's Theological College, Grafton Road, and the Bev. Alexander Astor. The rabbi feelingly responded and stressed the point of the privilege of living under the British flag, the flag of freedom and justice, and a spirit of holy faith will be a driving force for tho younger generation if carried out by an earnest desire for being good citizens. Afternoon tea was served in the adjoining hall, which was decorated with Iceland poppies and soft fern. The conveners were Mesdames Gustavo Pezaro, A. Astor, S. Reynolds and Miss Vera Ziman.
