AUCKLAND CONTROL REFEREES AND THE SCRUMS. AERANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY. The Auckland Rugby League Board of Control met last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding. The Primary Schools' management reported that the Avondale and Northcote teams would play in the interval of the main'game on Saturday. Approval was expressed of the recommendation of the Xieferees' Associatipn's decision to make a trial of referees putting the ball iu the scrums. Thie is to start in all grades this week-end. The defend--inp; half-back is to be held responsible for. giving the referee the ball. It was also decided' to ask the co-operation of the St. John Ambulance Association in assisting injured players to the side-line. The council advised with regard to Rule 17 (Laws of the Game), regarding a knockon or throw-forward that an incorrect penalty was being awarded when a player .participating in a passing rush inadvertently overran his team-mate in- possession of the ball, and when in that position . accepted a pass forward. It was now ruled that as the ball was passed forward, this breach occurred before the "offside" and a scrum was prescribed as penalty. The board approved this interpretation, and referred it to the Referees' Association.

The Northland, League advised thai late in August would be unsuitable for the visit of its representative team. It was decided to offer an earlier date. The match with South Auckland was fixed for July 15.

It wae considered that the ordering off of A. Nathan, "of Newton, for striking a Ponsonby player on Saturday, -was sufficient to meet the case.

The Auckland Football Association wrote supporting the Rugby League advocacy of better lighting facilities at the Domain and Victoria Park.

The transfer of C. Thompson, Marist Old Boys, to Newton Rangers, and of S. Goodwin from Ponsonby to Point Chevalier (the latter with regrading to second) were approved. The regrade of Raymond Absolum, of Otahuhu, was confirmed. New registrations: H. Jackson, Parnell, and of M. V. Birchall (school grade) for Devonport United.
