TO-DAY'S TURF.

Te Kuiti Races.

MAKE UP AND GIBRALTAR. Radiant Sun Shines.—Allegretto Takes the Maiden. The Te Kuiti Racing Club's annual meeting opened at Te Rapa to-day in fine weather. Racing commenced with the Kopaki Hurdle Race, for which Te lioia, Royal England and Regardez were withdrawn, and Thespis, Unoco and The Hiker carried the bulk of the money. However, Radiant Sun, who carried £1S on the win machine and £20 011 the place machine, won by a narrow margin and paid double figures, while Sir Musk, with only £5 invested 011 his number 011 the place machine, ran third and paid nearly a third of a century. Maungu King fell at the first fence, and Unoco led past the stand from Marble King, Principal, Ruby Meteor, Standfast and Sir Musk. Along the back Unoco was showing the way to Radiant Sun and Principal; then came Marble King, Sir Musk, Cargen and Wilton, with Thespis some distance away. There was no change across the top, and the three leaders led into the straight from Cargen, Ruby Meteor, Sir Musk and Marble King. Unoco and Radiant Sun jumped the last fence together, but the latter stayed 011 best in the run home and won by a neck, with Sir Musk twelve lengths away third. Principal, Ruby Meteor, Cargen, Free Air, Marble King, Balmeanach and Wilton were the next to finish. A Big Field. When the field lined up for the Maiden Handicap, Sub-station, Kind Words, Silver Wattle, Starmint and Dust Up were missing, leaving 28 runners, and most support came for Hunting Star, Mis£*Lulu, Hi version and Val Watch, while Allegretto was at a good price. Hunting Star, who was 011 the move when they were let go, began best from Allegretto, Grand City, High Exchange, Phiakuo and Tahae Mea, and 110 led across the top from Grand City, Allegretto, Diversion, Luck's All and High Exchange, with Tahae Mea following. The order was the same into the straight, where Allegretto came through fast and won easily by 1J lengths from Grand City, who beat Hunting Star by a length. Phiakuo, Diversion, Miss Lulu, Notamint and Revelation were next. King Country Steeples. Billy Boy and Neil were not saddled up for the King Country Steeplechase, and most money was entrusted to Lucess and Make Up, and the latter won comfortably by a lengt.li. When the field negotiated the stand double Lucess "was leading Star Comet, Master Lu, Wiltshire, and Make Up, the last-named going to the front along the back. Master Lu fell at the sod wall at t,lu> top of the straight, and crossing the double tho second time Make Up had charge from Wiltshire, Lucess, and Star Comet. Make Up continued 011, and, jumping in good style, always had the measure of his opponents, winning easily by a length from Lucess,> with Wiltshire ten lengths away and Star, Comet beaten off. The President's. Speedmint, Limeen and Don't Lap declined their engagements in the President's Handicap, in which tho chief fancies were Ruri, Gibraltar and Flying Prince. As they raced out of the straight the order was Chang, Teels, Flying Prince, Tarporley, Gibraltar, Alloy, Glenrata and Ruri, with Royal Artist and Ornamental in the rear. Chang and Teels were on terms along the back, with the order of the others unchanged, and Ruri moved up fast. Chang led across the top, with Ruri next; then came Flying Prince, Tarporley, Glenrata and Gibraltar, with Lady Quex, Alloy, Ornamental and Royal Artist next. As they turned for homo Chang was followed by Flying Prince, Glenrata, Ruri and Gibraltar, with Ornamental moving up. Gibraltar 6tayed on best over ttie final stages and beat Ornamental, who came fast on the outside, by a length, with Chang half a length away. Glenrata was fourth, with Grand Tea, Royal Artist, Alloy, Ruri, Teels and Tarporley next.
