THE SEASON'S RAIN

(By Phyllis Puglies, Feilding; age 15.)

There are raindrenclied grasses and spangled trees, In a land of emerald green, And diamonds drip from new-born leaves, When come the rains of spring. There's a didl grey world and a leaden sky, Transformed by summer's showers; Pattering down on .the burnt brown fields, Reviving the thirsty flowers. There's a shimmering sheet of silver falling, • On sodden fields and muddy lanes, There's the chatter and yoar of a streamlet brawling, Swift and swollen by winter's rains. There are silver raindrops brightly gleaming, On every leaf and every blade, There's: a land transformed by glittering jewels, Which the shimmering drops have made. Original.
