Prussia Sacrifices Power of Veto. DIET ADJOURNS SINE DIE. (Received 12.30 p.m.) BERLIN, May 18. The Prussian - Diet passed a bill, plenarily empowering Captain Goering, Premier, and abolishing nearly all constitutional stipulations, including popular referendum to veto laws.. The Council approved the 'bill and Parliament adjourned indefinitely. . DISTRUST OF NAZIS, SCEPTICISM IN AMERICA. NEW YORK, May 18. Although Americans, including official Washington, consider that Herr Hitler's speech was far more conciliatory than had been expected, the distrust aroused by Nazi Germany has hardly yet been dispelled. The Hearst Press, although it is distinctly anti-French, will say to-day: "To speak frankly, if Herr Hitler is the type of man that Germany wants that is perhaps Germany's business, but we Americans) who believe fervently in the gospel of liberty and independence, do not wailt to participate in any new international 'set-up' which will make our national Welfare contingent ort tile thoughts and spoken words of the Nazi leader." The "New York Times'" to-day will say! "So far as words go Herr Hitler has done much to reassure the opinion of other nations, but they will not cease to ask whether appropriate deeds are to follow. A great deal more is necessary to convince the world that Ger« many seeks not only peace within her own borders, but civilised and humane methods of government within them." JEWS IN SYDNEY. CONDEMN PERSECUTION. SYDNEY, May 18. A big meeting of the Jewish community in the Sydney Town Hall this evening passed a resolution condemning the persecution of Jews in Germany.
