CHURCHES AND ART UNIONS.

The Council of Christian Congregations does not include all the non-Roman Churches, as was stated by Dr. J. J. North.in the Town Hall. Numbers of Protestant Churches are not associated with the said council. Oil gambling, as 011 smoking, drinking, fighting, etc., the above council is divided. Therefore, it was preposterous for the deputation which recently waited 011 the Hon. J. A. Young to pretend to speak for all the Churches 01' members represented by the council. And the Auckland Presb'ytery was wrong in suggesting that the Hon. j. A. Young "should appear to haw impugned the good "faith of all the denominations represented." Presbyterians, as well as Baptists, Methodists and Anglicans, participate in art unions; and it is- a "ahtr on the Minister to attack him for revealing the divided opinion in the Churches repiesented. Unanimity is impossible it is impossible to give a satisfactory definition of gambling. Lotteries are sanctioned by both Old and New Testament usage. Casting lot-> for public office, under certain conditions, is a form of gambling which is quite innocent and legally 'recognised. Since there are harmless and innocent forms of gambling, every case must be judged 011 its own merits; ana eacli person must judge according to his oul ' light and conscience.
