UNFAIR PACKING.
APPXjE suppuee hned. A charge of unfair packing of nine cases of apples was preferred against C. Aola (Mr. Spencer Mason) at the Police Court this morning, before Mr. W. E McKean, S.M. Inspector Talbot, of the Department of Agriculture, produced samples, and said that there were two layers of good apples on top of the case, but the three layers below were inferior, with black spot and codlin moth. Mr. Mason said that the defendant was a well-known supplier for ten years to the City Markets and this was the first complaint. He had not made it a practice. The season had been a difficult one for growers, with small prices offering, and it had been a bad season for quality and disease in fruit. There had probably been a temptation to be careless m packing. Mr McKean: It is more than careless. It is dishonest. | A fine of £2 and 12/ costs was imposed.
