COOPERS' AWARD.
WAGES CLASSIFICATION. A new classification of wages, to enable the scope of the work to be enlarged, was made in the agreement for the Auckland coopers' industry, which was finalised before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. P. Hally, this morning. The employers were represented by Messrs. F. K. Knight, A. Suter, P. G. Woolfe and S. E. Wright, and the union by Messrs. J. Bcllsliam, F. Godfrey, R. Rusden and T. Sweetman. Most of the conditions are the same as those of the previous award, a variation of the hours of work being made in the case of the firm of P. S. Woolfe, where the 44-hour week is to be worked 011 five days of the week, with no work on Saturdays. The wages classification is as follows: (a) Journeymen coopers employed oil oak work, other than assembling machined oak casing casks, £4 12/0 a week; (b) journeymen coopers employed in assembling staves and finishing casks made of machined softwood and assembling machined oak casing casks, 1/10 per hour; (c) coopers' machinists and all other workers employed on other branches of coopering work, from 10 to 19 years of ago 1/0 per hour, 20 years and over 1/0 per hour; (d) proportion of juniors working under the preceding clause, one to two, or fraction of two, fully-paid machinists. Casual labourers shall be deemed to be those employed for less than a week, and are to be paid at 2/1J per hour. The overtime rates a"recd upon were: First two hours, time and a quarter; thereafter, time and a half. The duration of the award is one year, commencing on June •'!.
