ABOLISH SLUMS.
DISGRACE TO NATION. Prince Condemns Homes of Poverty-stricken. APPALLED BY VISITS. (United P.A.—Elcctric Telegraph-Copyright) (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 17. Speaking at the Guildhall with considerable emotion, the Prince of Wales appealed to the Association of Municipal Corporations to sweep away the slums which were a blot and a disgrace to the national life. They must not ho considered as the homes of the coming generation, lie said, adding, that lie liad inspected many such homes and he had been appalled that such conditions existed in a civilised country. "My experience shows," lie said, "that given decent conditions, slum dwellers will rise to their opportunities. Over <18.000 families of five occupy two rooms or less."
