CHAMPION TROTTER.
CHALLENGE TO WORLD. OWNER OF WALLA WALLA PUTS UP £500. SYDNEY, May 17. Mr. L. Martin, the owner of the champion pacer Walla Walla, has lodged £500 with the New South Wales Trotting Club with a challenge to race any trotter or pacer in the world for that amount. It is hoped to find a challenger in New Zealand. The match must take place before September 18. It is to consist of the best two out of three heats of one mile, and a move-up start is permitted. A message from Sydney, dated May 15, stated that the pacer Walla Walla, with three pace-makers, that day broke Harold Logan's record of 2.5 for one mile on a half-mile track by registering 2.2 2-5. Next Monday Walla Walla, at Victoria Park, will attempt to reduce Acron's record of 2.3 3-5 on a six-furlong track. Later Walla .Waila will be sent to New.'Zealand.
