The second social evening in aid of the local relief fund and sewing cirdi of the Kumeu Women's Institute w». held in the Public Hall. In spite of th» wintry weather there was a large attend, ance, and an enjoyable evening wgi spent in bridge and flag 500, the winner* being: Bridge, Mrs. Harris and Mr. J Granville; 500, Miss Dane, Messrs. Da n « and W. Chatfield; consolation prizea Mrs. Dane, Misb Lloyd and Mr. Nieol! Supper was served by the ladies' com. mittee.
