SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A successful concert" was held on Tuesday in the church hall, Epsom, in aid of the Mount Koskill boy scouts, when items were given by the scouts and cubs. The following contributed to the programme: Miss Betty Lelean, tap dancing; Peggy and Nancy Noel, fancy dancing; Nita Gorden, Highland dance. Recitations were given by baby Gloria Lelean and pianoforte solos by Mesdames Gorden and Dray, a quartet by the Manukau Four, and solos by Messrs. Murphy and Wilkereon. The accompanists were Miss Nancy Slater and Mesdames Dray and Gorden.

A meeting of the Remuera Women's Christian Union was held on Tuesday afternoon at the residence of, Mrs. Robinson, Clonbern Road, when Mre. Hugh Kaeper presided. A report of the recent Dominion convention and the plans of work for jubilee year was given by the president. Two violin duets were rendered by Master and Miss Robinson and vocal duets were given by Sister Grace and Mrs. Hood. Miss Cook played the accompaniments. It wae decided to help at the Y.W.C.A. street collection.

The Mothers' Club, Y.W.C.A., held a successful social afternoon on Tuesday, there being a good attendance of members, friends and children. Mrs. Edwards presided. Mrs. Rankin, one of the foundation members of the club, was the guest of honour and was the recipient of a posy of violets presented by the president' in honour of her birthday. Items wore contributed by the following children: Pianoforte solo, Miss Kinky; recitations by Miss Saunders and Mi6S Morris; song," Master Stanley Manson ; A competition was won by Miss Leitz. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames McConnell, Leitz and Lewis. » » » • The Holy Trinity Social Club held a most enjoyable dance in the Parish Hall, Otahuhu, last Tuesday evening. A good orchestra supplied the music for a varied programme of old-time selections, which included two Monte Carlo waltz«s, and extras were played by Mrs. N. Walters and Miss K. Fenton. The Monte Carlo competitions were won by Miss I. Hanford and Mr. J. Boneham and Miss N.. Lodge and Mr. R. Allan. Among those present were: Mesdames N. Walters, W. West, H. C. Fenton, Misses K. Fenton, P. Todd, M. Gollar, D. Pirie, I. Hanford, E. Webber, I. Taylor, G. Atkin, ,T. Paine, X. Thompson, L. Marshall. A. Crors, G. McLeod, N. Lodge and I. Fou bister.

The committee members of the St. Andrew's Society Ladies' Auxiliary met at the Farmers' Tea Rooms yesterday to say farewell to an ex-committee member, Mrs. C. Kohn, who leaves by the Monterey on Friday for a visit to Scotland. A presentation of a suede leather travelling cushion and also a posy of everlasting flowers tied with tartan ribbon was given to her to accompany her on her voyage. Several of the members present spoke about the popularity of the guest, and how hard she has worked for the success of the society, and wished her a happy voyage. In replying, Mrs. Kohn srid she would convey greetings from the St. Andrew's Society to Dumblane, where her_ relatives live, and the other societies in Scotland.

A "children's day" was held last Thursday at the Sandringham branch of the League of Mothers and a large number of members, friends and children were present. Mrs. Gilman presided and read the "Aims and Objects" of the league. Mrs. Powley provided the "Thought" for the month. It was announced that Sandringham had adopted tho newlv-formed Otorohanga branch, and that Mrs. Hynes had been appointed correspondent and representative to the provincial council. The president thanked the members for the large number of parcels of old linen they had brought for St. John Ambulance. A social programme was given by juveniles of recitations, pianoforte solos and dances. ' A competition, arranged by Mrs. Hynes, was won by Mrs. Mills. » • » •

A meeting of the ladies' sub-committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in the society's rooms on 10th inst. In the absonce of Mrs. Burges Watson (cliaiiman), the deputy-chairman (Miss Milburn) presided. Satisfactory reports were received in connection with the recent ball and carnival organised by Mrs. Burges Watson, the half-yearly jumble sale and the two bridge drives under tlie convenersliip of Miss Milburn. In view of the establishment of the new hospital-ambulance and home in Balmoral Road, entailing additional expenditure by the society, the committee discussed schemes for increasing the revenue. Details for the society s shop in animal welfare week and other propaganda of a humane and educational character were arranged.

A public installation of the Star of Avondale Lodge, No. (53, 1.0.0. F., took placo iu the 1.0.0. F. Hall, Avondale, on Monday, when the various lodges of tlie Waitemata and Auckland district lodges. Oddfellows and Rebekalis were well represented. The function being open to the public, a large gathering of visitors and friends availed themselves of tlie opportunity to be present at the impressive ceremony. The installation ceremony was ably conducted by Bro. Olsen, D.D.G.M. of Waitemata district, Bro. Strong, D.D.G.M., and the Past Grands of Haoremai Lodge. The following brothers were duly installed in their respective chairs: Junior Past Grand, W. Partridge; Noble Grand, A. Chandler; Vice Grand, H. Hudson; recording secretary, J. R. Johnston, P.G.; financial secretary, E. Wood; treasurer, W. F. Clement, P.G. The following were appointed officers: Chaplain, K. Barker; warden, J. Barker; conductor, W. Andrews; right sup. N.G., N. The bridge prize was won by Mrs. Carter; consolation, Mrs. McGill. Mrs. Bell was the winner of the 500, and Mrs. Partingont the consolation. Mrs. Preston welcomed the guests and Mrs. Hodgson thanked her on behalf of the club, and presented her with a posy. Mrs. McGill also thanked Mrs. Preston, on behalf of the visitors.

' A successful social evening was held at the Zealandia Hall, Balmoral, on Saturday, when-about 130 members and friends of the Auckland Minor Clubs Hard Court Association met, the occasion being tha presentation of the championship" cup to Avalon Tennis Club, also the trophies won at the championship tournament. The championship _ cup, decorated with the colours of Raani, last year's holders, and Avalon, winners of this year's tournament, was presented by Dr. John Dreadon, vice-president of the association, to Mr. R. Hayhow, captain of Avalon Club, amid great applause. Dr. Dreadon then presented the 10 silver cups won at the tournament held at Windmill Road courts, the trophy winners being: Miss A.
