SURPLUS WHEAT.
DOMINION'S HEAVY CROP. YIELD CLOSE TO RECORD. (By Telegrnpli.—-Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Figures given by the president of the North Canterbury branch of the Farmers' Union, Mr. Colin -Mcintosh, in an address this morning, indicated that the average yield of Canterbury wheat would this year be not far short of the record of 38J bushels established in 1920, which, over 294,000 acres, would give a total yield of 11,319,000 bushels. The estimated surplus would be 2,500,000 bushels. To deal with this surplus, and save a serious break in the market, the Government had instituted what was tantamount to a compulsory wheat pool, which, he thought, was the very best arrangement that could have been made under the circumstances.
