THE CHURCHES AND ART UNIONS.
It is difficult to understand the attitude - ,f the Churches towards art unions. They lia* e failed to slate the exact line which separates tho speculation involved in the purchase of il ticket from other forms of speculation which do not fall under their condemnation. It ,s beside the mark to say that the odds against the purchaser of a ticket are enormous, that the expenses are- high, or that art unions are uneconomic. These matters have nothing to do with morals, and, presumably, the abjection of the Churches is a moral objection. W<j are forced to tho contention that all forms of gambling , are immoral. Here one may well ask, Why? What is the difference between-gambling and a business speculation? They both involve a risk run in the hope °* pain"? A clear statement as to the exact nature of the difference between gambling!*?* a business speculation would be welcomed hj" many. ANGLICAN.
