TRACK GALLOPS.

WORK AT ELLERSLIE. YHESPIS SCHOOLS WELL. GAY BRONEY SPRINTS FAST. The hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper at Ellerslie this morning, but there was only one schooling bout on this track. Xo. 3 grass was available for fast work, and some useful gallops were recorded. The weather was line, but as the result ot recent ra'n the tracks were on the holding side, though good for this period of the season. • No. 3 Grass. Valroo was given useful work, being timed to-run his last half-mile in 57 2-ss. He could have done a lot better. Manawhenua was holding Tahae JMea safely at the, end of r five furlongs run in 1.7 2-5. Over a similar distance Gay Broney pleased better than Mahkill, running home in 1.4 2-5. This was a good gallop. Taneriri and Searcher were sent six furlongs, running the first three in 40s, and completing the task in 1.18 4-5. There was little between them, and both horses worked well, thojigh they were not carrying much weight. Wee Prince was timed to complete a round in 1.50 2-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.23 3-5. Teremai assisted him over the final stage, running her last half-mile in 555. Hushing was going easily to complete half a mile in 56 3-ss. Grand Spirit was sent alone over six furlongs. She ran the first three in 38 l-ss, and the full distance in 1.20. Court Haven did strong work, being timed to run her last five furlonirs in 1.10 1-5. Imamint was too good for >> v otamint while traversing five furlongs in 1.6, the first two taking 25 l-ss. The juveniles Love Story (Romeo—Thurnley) and the Musketoon— Lady Greta representative in H. Rama's stable ran two furlongs in 25 l-ss, easing np to run three furlongs in 39 4-ss. The latter was in front throughout.

After Breakfast. Gold Money, Gay Marigold, and Supreme Ruler were bunched at the end of half a mile, which occupied 51 l-ss. This was a good effort, all three going nicely. Sir Vα] was sent over a similar distance, and, going easily, completed his task in §6 l-ss. Master Brierly and King March were timed to run the last half mile of their work in 535. Master Brierly is in first class order, and King March is also making excellent progress. Calientc and Chief Joy com-

pletcd half a mile in £>& l-ss. United, who .got the best of the start, finished slightly in front of Chief Cook, with Tarporley close up, at the conclusion of five furlongs run in 1.5 2-5. Moreliu splinted four furlongs in 54 2-ss, and Patutahi traversed a round in 1.49, the last six furlongs taking 1.25 4-5. King Comet ran honie from the half-mile post in 53 3-ss, hitting out very freely. The jumpers Billy Boy and Absent worked over a round and three furlongs, taking 2.36 3-5, the final round being coVered in 1.51, and the last half mile in 58 4-ss. Billy Boy beat his .companion by several lengths. The Jumpers. On the course proper, Thespis (J. Burgess), Catoma (Fergus), Wee Pat (Garrett), and Tetrarchate- (Graddock) were companions in a schooling bout over four hurdles, finishing as named. Thespis gave a good display, and Catoma also pleased. Wee Pat fenced safely, as did Tetrarchate, though he dipped a bit at the last obstacle.

On the inside hurdle track, Trishna (T. Chaplin) cleared a couple of hurdles safely, his display being encouraging.

Prince of Orange (H. Dulieu) was also sent over six hurdles on the inside hurdle track, giving, a satisfactory exhibition despite the fact that he got in close to one of the obstacles. TAKANINI HORSES. bome good sprints. ! The -weather was fine for training at Takanini this morning. The outside firase track was open, ■ but the going was holding. Hurdles were erected on the outside of the course and four horses were schooled.

On the Grass. Gastronomy was half a length, in front of Sub-station, with Musgo' two lengths away, after traversing five furlongs in, 1.5. The first-named went much better this ■morning with a stronger horseman in the saddle. Holly Lu was a length in front of Greek Gold at the end of _ a smartlyrun five furlongs, which occupied 1.3, but Greek Gold was conceding his companion a good deal of weight. Diversion worked strongly over a round, running the last half mile in 57s while under restraint. Royal Artist and Speedmint worked at an easy pace to the five-furlong post and ran home in 1.5, 'both hitting out well. Kind Words and Bugle Call covered a , similar .distance in 1.7 1-5, and both oould have done better.

.The Jumpers. The Hiker (Walters) and Regardez (Crowley) were sent over four hurdles. Both gave a good display till the last fence, where Regardez fell. The last mile (over three fences) was run in 1.54 1-5. True Blood (Grice) and Principal (McHroy) were together throughout a similar task, which occupied 1.57 1-5 if or the last mile. Both jumped well. The following horses are due to leave for Te Rapa on Friday or Saturday to fulfil engagements at the Te Kuiti meeting:—Speedmint, Royal Artist, Diversion, The Hiker, Sub-station, True Blood, Kind Words, Musgo, Eegardez, Principal, Holly Lu and Thespis.
