ONEHUNGA RELIEF WORK.
PREFERENCE TO LOCAL MEN. Tlio Onehunga Borough Council Last night resolved, in regard to unemployed •men se&king relief work, to adhere to its previous resolution, which imposed a six months' residential qualification. After the council adopted this resolution, the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, reported on Iris interview with the Minister of Employment, who had asked, the council to reverse its decision. He, the Mayor, thought it might be a good idea to comply with the Minister's wish, and then decided not to take on any more men, ljut confine the work to old residents of the borough, and let new arrivals go into camp. The council would have to reduce the number of men employed on No. 5 scheme in Onehuaga, as the cost to the ratepayers was increasing, while the work was decreasing. Mr. S. Vella said that no Onehunga married men had been sent into_ camp, consequently men from other districts had flocked to Onehunga to avoid going to camp. The Mayor decided to leave hie suggestion open for consideration by the council until next Monday night.
